Autumn Activities

Fall in northern Michigan is a feast of color for the eyes.  The area starts to slow down a bit after the crowds of the summer clear out but there is still plenty to do as the weather starts to shift.

September is considered the "local's summertime" as lingering warm weather allows for sneaking in some beach days with a quieter vibe.  This is the time of year when hiking and biking become a quest to find the richest blend of colors and the Heritage Trail will check all of those boxes. For those looking for a more rugged but equally beautiful trail, check out Palmer Woods and bathe in a forest of fall hues.  Experience the scenic lookouts of Empire Bluff and Pyramid Point trails or drive up Pierce Stocking for spectacular color seen while playing on the sand dunes.

Looking to fish?  Early fall is peak fishing time! Especially for those wanting to take advantage of the salmon run as they leave Lake Michigan and head into the rivers and streams to spawn.  Find information on salmon fishing and more here.

When you're done for the day and ready to cozy up, head to town for wine tasting, dining, shopping, and more.
